Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 14, 2026
New Neighbourhood ("we", "us", "our") operates the New Neighbourhood platform (the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Agents
When you sign up and create an agent profile, we collect:
- Google account data: Name, email address, and profile photo (provided by Google OAuth during sign-in).
- Profile information: Display name, bio, WhatsApp phone number, profile photo (uploaded separately), and selected service areas (states, cities/LGAs).
- Service type: Whether you handle sales, rentals, or both.
- Verification data: If you choose to verify your identity, your government-issued ID document (NIN slip, driver's licence, voter's card, or international passport) and associated biometric data are processed by our third-party verification provider, Didit. New Neighbourhood stores only the verification status, document type, reference ID, and timestamps — not the ID document itself.
1.2 House Hunters
You can search and contact agents without creating an account. If you sign in to leave a review, we collect:
- Google account data: Name, email address, and avatar (provided by Google OAuth).
- Review content: Your star rating and optional written review.
1.3 Automatically Collected Data
- Contact events: When you click "Message on WhatsApp" on an agent's profile, we log an anonymized contact event containing: a random anonymous identifier (cookie-based), a salted hash of your IP address (not the raw IP), and your browser user-agent string. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Error tracking: We use Sentry for error monitoring. Crash reports may include technical metadata (browser type, OS, stack traces) but no personal identifiers.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Operating the directory: Displaying agent profiles in search results, ranking agents (verified agents rank higher), and enabling contact via WhatsApp redirect.
- Identity verification: Processing ID documents through Didit to issue verification badges.
- Reviews and ratings: Displaying user reviews and aggregate ratings on agent profiles.
- Analytics: Anonymized contact event data helps us understand platform usage and improve the service.
- Abuse prevention: Rate-limiting and de-duplicating contact events to prevent spam and abuse.
- Communication: Contacting you about your account, platform updates, or support enquiries.
3. Data Sharing & Third-Party Processors
We do not sell your personal data. We share data with the following third parties only as necessary to operate the Platform:
- Didit — Identity verification provider. Processes your ID document and biometric data during the verification flow. Subject to Didit's own privacy policy.
- Supabase — Database and authentication provider. Stores user accounts and platform data in a PostgreSQL database.
- Cloudinary — Image hosting. Stores agent profile photos.
- Google — Authentication provider (OAuth sign-in).
- Vercel — Hosting provider. The Platform is deployed on Vercel infrastructure.
- Sentry — Error monitoring and performance tracking.
4. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account or profile is active on the Platform:
- Agent profile data is held for the duration of your relationship with the Platform. When you request profile removal, your data is deleted within 30 days.
- Verification records (status, document type, reference ID, timestamps) are retained for as long as your agent profile exists. The actual ID documents are processed and stored by Didit according to their retention policy — New Neighbourhood does not store the documents.
- House hunter account data is retained for as long as you have an account. Reviews remain visible while the account is active.
- Contact event logs are anonymized and may be retained indefinitely for aggregate analytics.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Correction — Update or correct inaccurate information on your profile.
- Deletion — Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Data portability — Request your data in a machine-readable format.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at imailasjay@gmail.com.
6. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS) for all connections.
- Hashed and salted storage of IP addresses in contact events.
- Server-side phone number handling — agent WhatsApp numbers are never exposed in the page HTML.
- Session-based authentication with secure cookies.
No system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data, but we commit to promptly addressing any security incident.
7. Cookies
The Platform uses the following cookies:
- __session — Authentication session cookie. Essential for signed-in functionality.
- af_anon — Anonymous identifier for contact event de-duplication. Does not contain personal information.
We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party marketing cookies.
8. Children's Privacy
The Platform is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that a child has provided personal data, we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and may notify you via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the Platform constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
